The Qinhuangdao Shell Kingdom is located in the Nandaihe Tourist Resort, Beidaihe New District, Qinhuangdao City. It is a shell science museum and scenic area integrating shell specimen display, exploration of marine life, shell research and collection, popular science education, cultural tourism and entertainment, as well as health tourism. The museum houses more than 40,000 exhibits of various kinds.
The collections come from major oceans, rivers, lakes, land and mountains around the world, including fossil specimens of Paleozoic ammonoids (fossil cephalopods of ancient mollusks) and large cephalopod specimens. The Shell Kingdom is a natural masterpiece containing natural science, humanities, social sciences and aesthetics. Each shell here will tell its story through its unique texture. The exhibition hall is divided into eight parts: the mollusk exhibition hall, the exhibition hall of original Paleozoic shell fossils and Paleozoic ammonoid fossils, the world marine shell classification exhibition hall, the world terrestrial shell classification exhibition hall, the Chinese freshwater shell classification exhibition hall, the exhibition hall on the relationship between shells and humans and the projection room, the marine life science museum, and the shell handicraft shopping street. Entering the venue, there are colorful and strangely shaped rare shells on display. The shell dream world integrating sound, light and electricity will bring you into a fairyland like a dream. Among the precious shell treasures in the collection, there are many precious and rare snails polished by history. These rare snails in different morphological structures will accompany you to trace the vicissitudes of them and even the earth. Here, you can not only see the large shell known as the ‘king of seashells’, but also small sand shells that can only be seen with a magnifying glass. There are also large animal specimens that dominated the ocean 500 million years ago. You can also learn about the process of marine shellfish farming. The Shell Kingdom will also present various attributes that shells were once given from the perspective of historical materialism. Through legends and historical research, it will bring you to understand the many connections between this microcosm of the Shell Kingdom and humans.Opening hours: Open all year round from 09:00 to 16:30.
